Perry Family Holiday – London Day 1 – Second Leg

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

I’m first generation Australian and my Mum and Dad (as teenagers) migrated to Australia from England in the 1960’s.  I so wanted to go to London and explore the English countryside, spending ages researching and designing a ‘must do’ itinerary.

I couldn’t believe I was actually in the UK – arriving in Heathrow on 25th September 2012 at 8.30 pm.  We were met at the airport by Chris who is married to my Mum’s cousin Lynne and who we had hosted on their Australian holiday a few years before.  Could we recognise him?  Yes, no worries at all as he knew our voices and saw Scott straight away. Perry Family Holiday – Hong Kong – First Leg

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

A holiday of a life time, one where I had cashed in all my frequent flyer points for myself, husband Scott and youngest daughter Jessica to spend 20 days overseas visiting 4 countries and 1 Disneyland!

Flying out on Saturday 22nd September 2012 we arrived at the airport around 9.45 am for our 10.50 am flight from Adelaide arriving into Melbourne at 12.45 pm.  Once in Melbourne we went through customs and had a short visit in the first class Qantas lounge (not that we flew first or business class unfortunately) which was very nice before flying out at 2.15 pm to Hong Kong.

The flight was comfortable, we watched movies, read and talked, reviewed our itinerary and felt very excited. Read More

Exploring Normanville – Mini Break

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

To celebrate my parents’ birthdays in August 2012 I booked a mini break at Normanville staying in a really nice, new, holiday house called Bungala Shores.

With Thursday to Sunday to plan out, I called into the Visitors Centre at Yankalilla where the staff were very helpful and I came away with brochures and things to do.

Getting into town around 5.00 pm on Thursday night I got acquainted with the house, unpacked and we picked up fish and chips from the Normanville Fish and Pizza shop. Read More

Cheeky Winter Overnighter at Mount Lofty House

I love the Wotif specials that are available for a window of a few hours and recently I booked a night at the majestic Mount Lofty House.  The package included a deluxe room, country continental breakfast for two, midday checkout, bottle of wine and $35 dinner voucher.

Arriving whilst it was still light, late on a Friday afternoon in July, the sunset was stunning and very colourful from yellow through to pink and purple hues.

The house has an interesting layout with a pool and garden in the middle, multiple stories for accommodation with balconies, a library/lounge, pool room and conservatory style restaurant all with open fires. Read More

Mini break photos

Taking two nights to relax by myself was something I was really looking forward, a chance to chill, have some quiet time and focus my thinking. Having bought a Scoopon a few months ago, I booked into Authenticity Day Spa Resort on Thursday around 5.00 pm, just an hour’s drive from home in Happy Valley.

The 150 year old house has 3 bedrooms upstairs and I was shown to the yellow room with a lovely view over the surrounding vine yard, slippers (only footwear to be worn inside the house) and robe laid out, and heater on so the room was nice and cosy. Read More

Cairns – steamy weather, adventure filled and stunning looking

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

For our 18th Wedding Anniversary on 19th February 2012, Scott and I had a week long holiday in Cairns and we loved it!

Arriving mid Thursday afternoon via a direct Jetstar flight (such a bargain, $99 flights each way from Adelaide) we took a walk along the esplanade and grabbed a gourmet, light burger for a late lunch at Grilled.

In our little beep beep rental car we explored the city to get our bearings, stocked up on supplies, picked up all the touristy info and decided on the things we wanted to do, Thursday night we had dinner with Scott’s colleague at the Raw Prawn – the prawn and avocado salad was lovely and light. Australia Day mini break

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

It seems that we discovered a tradition of spending Australia Day at Horseshoe Bay, Port Elliot a little by accident as heaps of people, locals and those from Adelaide, go down there each year.

I had looked at a couple of options for a mini break and booked a cute 4 bedroom house called the Tin Shed through Dodd and Page. About an hour from my home in Adelaide we arrived at Horseshoe Bay on Wednesday around lunch time all decked out in our Australia Day gear.

Finding a spot on the busy beach with smells of BBQ’s and scenes of back yard cricket up on the grass we braved the huge waves for a swim and wave jumping (is that what it’s called?). Read More

Willunga Farmers Market has grown up

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Since the move to the sidewalk areas outside The Alma Hotel and Fino’s in Hill Street Willunga, as the market grew out of their original location, there have been quite a few changes. The new brand with the pitch fork logo, the introduction of the community membership scheme and the engagement of administration, book-keeping and marketing staff all demonstrate that this is a serious business.

The chair of the Willunga Farmers Market, Jude McBain says, “…we see ourselves [the committee] as managing a multimillion dollar business – it’s about people’s livelihoods. People put their trust in us as we have helped farmers to say goodbye to the packing shed and be brave by selling all their produce via the market.”

Cellar Door Wine Festival – cheers!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

There is a romanticism about wine, food and cellar door locations in South Australia that sometimes has me considering moving (or mini-breaking) to a regional location with beautiful views and growing my own produce or running a South Australian produce shop. So when I heard about South Australia’s First State Cellar Door Wine Festival in Adelaide from 25 – 27 February 2011 I had to go.

I reviewed the website, liked the Facebook page and knew that I could buy tickets at the door on Saturday afternoon so off we went – Aimee (my 19 year old daughter) and I. Held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, we bought our tickets, received our Passport with details of the 100+wineries by region, and festival wine tokens. Read More

Barossa Valley – Can we have it all plus a mini break?

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Regional Development Australia Barossa recently advertised a Thinking Barossa forum headed with a question, Can we have it all? With a title like that it piqued my interest in regional development so I booked in online and looked forward to making the drive out along the new Northern Expressway and through the valley.

At late notice I decided to drive up to the Barossa Valley the night before the forum and I booked into the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort in Rowland Flat.  Arriving after dark I was happy to see the resort had been updated with a number of improvements from the last time I stayed there for a conference which was a few years ago now.  Read More
