Ride a Bull – you go cowgirl!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

A quiet Friday night in August 2013 saw Scott and I head to the Woodcroft Tavern, not a regular spot at all but there was a special attraction – Ride a Bull SA.  Scott (and the blokes that had been at the pub since 4.00 pm) encouraged me to have a go – check out the video from Mechanical Bull Ride – Heat 3 – scroll through and you can see me in a couple of videos.

It’s a lot harder than it looks and I had to get the guy from Ride a Bull to kneel down so I could step on his knee and get onto the horse.  For one of the rounds I made it to 67 seconds and was high fived by the supportive crowd.  Want to see Wendy Perry, The Wild Side?  View this video and make sure you watch it til the end! @wordadelaide – Freestyle MC Competition – an unexpected night!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Word Adelaide’s Freestyle MC Competition was held on Friday 16th August 2013 at the Thebarton Theatre and it wasn’t what I expected.

In my mind I was going to a public speaking competition for masters of ceremonies.  I didn’t realise it was “MC” as in MC Hammer – rap like dudes and dudettes battling with three rounds including acapella, beat boxing and rapping to specific songs in a boxing ring.

My first reaction was what are we at – a rapper comp with some colourful language?! Read More

Maldives and Bhutan – a contrasting 2 weeks

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

In January and February 2013, over the space of 2 weeks, I travelled to Male in Maldives via Singapore and to Thimphu in Bhutan via Bangkok.

Maldives is a dream destination for many and when we flew into Male International Airport on Hulhule Island in the North Male Atoll, the weather was high 20’s to early 30’s Celsius.

Traders Hotel, Maldives has a speed boat services across the amazing coloured sea to Male (only 1 x 2 km) where the hotel is located in the government area of town a street to two back from the water.

With a free Sunday before work began on implementing apprenticeships, industry partnerships and TVET, my colleague from QUT, Nelson Salangsang checked out options for day trips to resorts. Read More

Growing up in Marion, where my family moved when I was 5, means you can take for granted all that the city offers and with Rescue 2012 being held across Southern Adelaide this week here are recommendations from local on what to do.

Start the morning with coffee and a cup cake at quirky Junktion which is a vintage/second hand shop come coffee shop, stop in atCharlesworth Nuts to pick up factory shop bargains and the Waffle King for a salmon crepe for lunch plus a Belgian chocolate waffle for dessert (to share). Read More

‘You can’t beat a day at the Bay’ is the message from Jetty Road Glenelg traders and the City of Holdfast Bay, so what could your day entail?

A morning walk from Somerton Park, along the Esplanade to Glenelg, through Jimmy Melrose Park and around Holdfast Shores toPure Boutique Coffee Barfor the best coffee around is a lovely way to start.

Strolling up one side of Jetty Road from Moseley Square to Brighton Road and back down the other side to the beach provides lots of shopping opportunities from fashion, food and gifts plus you can always hop onto the tram if you need. Read More

Adelaide Highlights Tour

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

How often do we take the time to be a tourist in our own town rather than waiting for interstate or overseas visitors?  For my birthday this year I took the day off to explore and rediscover Adelaide’s highlights with recommendations on what to do in Adelaide, South Australia.

With a cooked breakfast (made at home or you could get a voucher from Scoopon or Living Social) head into town via car (or train, tram or bus depending on what suits you) and once you’re in Adelaide you can use FREE city services.  Having driven past St Peters Cathedral many, many times I decided to take a closer look and see inside this beautiful building whose construction began in 1869. Perry Family Holiday – Paris – Sixth Leg

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Arriving late in London via a flight from Glasgow via Easy Jet and the train from Luton to St Pancras, we walked to a nearby (very average and expensive) hotel.

Eurostar tickets to Paris departing at 7.55 am meant we arrived in Paris Gare du Nord station at 11.17 am (8.10.12) and booked in at our hotel, Hotel Gare du Nord Suede.

Our hotel was near one of the four tour routes for the Paris L Open Tour so we hopped on the Monte Marte bus to Ste-Marie Madeleine where we changed to the Paris Grand Tour route.

This tour took us to Musee Du Louvre, over the Seine past Place De La Concorde, along Av. Des Champs-Elysees, through the Arc De Triomphe towards the grandulous Tour Eiffel. Read More

Perry Family Holiday – Scotland – Fifth Leg

Driving from Oxford down to Luton we then had a mid-afternoon flight to Glasgow where we picked up a rental car and drove into the city.  Having watched the airport TV shows we were nervous about flying with Easy Jet however it really was quite smooth (once we back tracked the missed freeway exit and Scott had dropped off the rental car and caught the bus back to the airport).

“Arrived in the land my husband is named after, Glasgow tonight then Edinburgh after a slightly stressful drive to Luton as we missed an exit and then an easy jet (good) experience…” Read More

Perry Family Holiday – English Countryside – Fourth Leg

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Saying goodbye to the Castles we started our drive mid-morning from Kenley to Brockenhurst in the New Forest for the 4-day English countryside jaunt.

“The New Forest is just lovely, wild horses and donkeys wandering through the villages and we stayed in a 1650’s forester’s cottage called Cottage Lodge with a snug made from reclaimed ships timbers, hand made bricks and sand.” (30.9.12)  For dinner, “Steak and ale pie at the Rose and Crown in Brokenhurst where the hotel dates back to the 13th century”. Perry Family Holiday – London Day 2-4 – Third Leg

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

With a stand out first day in London where we packed in some many activities, the next couple of days had a slightly slower pace and we explored London and Peckham as this is where my parents and family lived in the 1960’s.

A train ride from Purley plus tube took us to Charing Cross, with a quick walk across the Strand and St Martin’s Place to Trafalgar Square, such a landmark and home to Nelson’s Column.

Next tube stop was Covent Garden which I love, great food and shopping with all the Brit souvenirs.  The old worlde cobblestones helped me imagine what it would have been like many years ago where my great grandmother and then ‘young’ grand father worked in their flower stall. Read More
