Driving from Oxford down to Luton we then had a mid-afternoon flight to Glasgow where we picked up a rental car and drove into the city.  Having watched the airport TV shows we were nervous about flying with Easy Jet however it really was quite smooth (once we back tracked the missed freeway exit and Scott had dropped off the rental car and caught the bus back to the airport).

Saying goodbye to the Castles we started our drive mid-morning from Kenley to Brockenhurst in the New Forest for the 4-day English countryside jaunt.

“The New Forest is just lovely, wild horses and donkeys wandering through the villages and we stayed in a 1650’s forester’s cottage called Cottage Lodge with a snug made from reclaimed ships timbers, hand made bricks and sand.” (30.9.12)  For dinner, “Steak and ale pie at the Rose and Crown in Brokenhurst where the hotel dates back to the 13th century”. With a stand out first day in London where we packed in some many activities, the next couple of days had a slightly slower pace and we explored London and Peckham as this is where my parents and family lived in the 1960’s.

A train ride from Purley plus tube took us to Charing Cross, with a quick walk across the Strand and St Martin’s Place to Trafalgar Square, such a landmark and home to Nelson’s Column.

Next tube stop was Covent Garden which I love, great food and shopping with all the Brit souvenirs.  The old worlde cobblestones helped me imagine what it would have been like many years ago where my great grandmother and then ‘young’ grand father worked in their flower stall. Read More

I’m first generation Australian and my Mum and Dad (as teenagers) migrated to Australia from England in the 1960’s.  I so wanted to go to London and explore the English countryside, spending ages researching and designing a ‘must do’ itinerary.

I couldn’t believe I was actually in the UK – arriving in Heathrow on 25^th September 2012 at 8.30 pm.  We were met at the airport by Chris who is married to my Mum’s cousin Lynne and who we had hosted on their Australian holiday a few years before.  Could we recognise him?  Yes, no worries at all as he knew our voices and saw Scott straight away. A holiday of a life time, one where I had cashed in all my frequent flyer points for myself, husband Scott and youngest daughter Jessica to spend 20 days overseas visiting 4 countries and 1 Disneyland!

Flying out on Saturday 22^nd September 2012 we arrived at the airport around 9.45 am for our 10.50 am flight from Adelaide arriving into Melbourne at 12.45 pm.  Once in Melbourne we went through customs and had a short visit in the first class Qantas lounge (not that we flew first or business class unfortunately) which was very nice before flying out at 2.15 pm to Hong Kong.

The flight was comfortable, we watched movies, read and talked, reviewed our itinerary and felt very excited. Read More

To celebrate my parents’ birthdays in August 2012 I booked a mini break at Normanville staying in a really nice, new, holiday house called Bungala Shores.

With Thursday to Sunday to plan out, I called into the Visitors Centre at Yankalilla where the staff were very helpful and I came away with brochures and things to do.

Getting into town around 5.00 pm on Thursday night I got acquainted with the house, unpacked and we picked up fish and chips from the Normanville Fish and Pizza shop. Read More

I love the Wotif specials that are available for a window of a few hours and recently I booked a night at the majestic Mount Lofty House.  The package included a deluxe room, country continental breakfast for two, midday checkout, bottle of wine and $35 dinner voucher.

Arriving whilst it was still light, late on a Friday afternoon in July, the sunset was stunning and very colourful from yellow through to pink and purple hues.

The house has an interesting layout with a pool and garden in the middle, multiple stories for accommodation with balconies, a library/lounge, pool room and conservatory style restaurant all with open fires. Read More

For our 18^th Wedding Anniversary on 19^th February 2012, Scott and I had a week long holiday in Cairns and we loved it!

Arriving mid Thursday afternoon via a direct Jetstar flight (such a bargain, $99 flights each way from Adelaide) we took a walk along the esplanade and grabbed a gourmet, light burger for a late lunch at Grilled.

In our little beep beep rental car we explored the city to get our bearings, stocked up on supplies, picked up all the touristy info and decided on the things we wanted to do, Thursday night we had dinner with Scott’s colleague at the Raw Prawn – the prawn and avocado salad was lovely and light.
