New Zealand Holiday – North Island Highlights

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

For a long time I’ve held a romantic view about travelling around New Zealand.  When flights were advertised by Jetstar for $149.00-199.00 from Adelaide to Auckland I had to take advantage of it.  Scott and I also celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary on 19 February 2014 and so I wanted to do something special.

When booking and planning a holiday I like to spend time researching and working through different activities, places to visit and consider recommendations from friends, family and colleagues.  I booked most of the accommodation from Australia but not car hire or any of the activities. I also contacted a couple of business networks with events sourced via Eventbrite to make arrangements to connect in New Zealand. Read More

Aloha from Hawaii – Wendy’s 40th birthday present

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Aloha!  For my 40th birthday in October I wanted to go somewhere special – that place was Hawaii (particularly after watching The Descendants multiple times).

I booked very cost effective flights from Melbourne to Honolulu on Jetstar and used my Virgin Velocity reward points for a return flight for Scott and I from Adelaide to Melbourne.

When travelling to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program you need to apply for authorization via the Electronic System for Travel Authorization.

With lots of research and questions to those people that I knew had holidayed in Hawaii I had a long list of possible activities and places to visit. Read More

Shakespeare in the suburbs

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

After my visit to Stratford-Upon-Avon in England last year I was inspired to see Shakespeare and it reminded me of how much I loved various Shakespeare plays in high school (Thanks to Mr Bob Phillips from Temple Christian College for the introduction).

In July 2013 I booked 1 ticket to see The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) on a Wednesday morning 31.7.13 at 11.00 am at the Hogood Theatre in Ramsay Place at Noarlunga Centre.

Complete works

Entering the theatre foyer I could see the audience was mostly made up of seniors and students.  I wasn’t sure what to expect and sat down in the third row only to be shuffled along by a guy in his 20’s as I was in his seat.  The lights dimmed and the first actor took to the stage starting with a bit of audience interaction.  Read More

Ride a Bull – you go cowgirl!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

A quiet Friday night in August 2013 saw Scott and I head to the Woodcroft Tavern, not a regular spot at all but there was a special attraction – Ride a Bull SA.  Scott (and the blokes that had been at the pub since 4.00 pm) encouraged me to have a go – check out the video from Mechanical Bull Ride – Heat 3 – scroll through and you can see me in a couple of videos.

It’s a lot harder than it looks and I had to get the guy from Ride a Bull to kneel down so I could step on his knee and get onto the horse.  For one of the rounds I made it to 67 seconds and was high fived by the supportive crowd.  Want to see Wendy Perry, The Wild Side?  View this video and make sure you watch it til the end! @wordadelaide – Freestyle MC Competition – an unexpected night!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Word Adelaide’s Freestyle MC Competition was held on Friday 16th August 2013 at the Thebarton Theatre and it wasn’t what I expected.

In my mind I was going to a public speaking competition for masters of ceremonies.  I didn’t realise it was “MC” as in MC Hammer – rap like dudes and dudettes battling with three rounds including acapella, beat boxing and rapping to specific songs in a boxing ring.

My first reaction was what are we at – a rapper comp with some colourful language?! Read More

Maldives and Bhutan – a contrasting 2 weeks

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

In January and February 2013, over the space of 2 weeks, I travelled to Male in Maldives via Singapore and to Thimphu in Bhutan via Bangkok.

Maldives is a dream destination for many and when we flew into Male International Airport on Hulhule Island in the North Male Atoll, the weather was high 20’s to early 30’s Celsius.

Traders Hotel, Maldives has a speed boat services across the amazing coloured sea to Male (only 1 x 2 km) where the hotel is located in the government area of town a street to two back from the water.

With a free Sunday before work began on implementing apprenticeships, industry partnerships and TVET, my colleague from QUT, Nelson Salangsang checked out options for day trips to resorts. Read More

Marion – recommendations on what to do from a local

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Growing up in Marion, where my family moved when I was 5, means you can take for granted all that the city offers and with Rescue 2012 being held across Southern Adelaide this week here are recommendations from local on what to do.

Start the morning with coffee and a cup cake at quirky Junktion which is a vintage/second hand shop come coffee shop, stop in atCharlesworth Nuts to pick up factory shop bargains and the Waffle King for a salmon crepe for lunch plus a Belgian chocolate waffle for dessert (to share). Read More

Glenelg and Brighton amongst South Australia’s top beaches

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

‘You can’t beat a day at the Bay’ is the message from Jetty Road Glenelg traders and the City of Holdfast Bay, so what could your day entail?

A morning walk from Somerton Park, along the Esplanade to Glenelg, through Jimmy Melrose Park and around Holdfast Shores toPure Boutique Coffee Barfor the best coffee around is a lovely way to start.

Strolling up one side of Jetty Road from Moseley Square to Brighton Road and back down the other side to the beach provides lots of shopping opportunities from fashion, food and gifts plus you can always hop onto the tram if you need. Read More

Adelaide Highlights Tour

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

How often do we take the time to be a tourist in our own town rather than waiting for interstate or overseas visitors?  For my birthday this year I took the day off to explore and rediscover Adelaide’s highlights with recommendations on what to do in Adelaide, South Australia.

With a cooked breakfast (made at home or you could get a voucher from Scoopon or Living Social) head into town via car (or train, tram or bus depending on what suits you) and once you’re in Adelaide you can use FREE city services.  Having driven past St Peters Cathedral many, many times I decided to take a closer look and see inside this beautiful building whose construction began in 1869. Perry Family Holiday – Paris – Sixth Leg

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Arriving late in London via a flight from Glasgow via Easy Jet and the train from Luton to St Pancras, we walked to a nearby (very average and expensive) hotel.

Eurostar tickets to Paris departing at 7.55 am meant we arrived in Paris Gare du Nord station at 11.17 am (8.10.12) and booked in at our hotel, Hotel Gare du Nord Suede.

Our hotel was near one of the four tour routes for the Paris L Open Tour so we hopped on the Monte Marte bus to Ste-Marie Madeleine where we changed to the Paris Grand Tour route.

This tour took us to Musee Du Louvre, over the Seine past Place De La Concorde, along Av. Des Champs-Elysees, through the Arc De Triomphe towards the grandulous Tour Eiffel. Read More
